Still a long way to go to match what the Links franchise was doing over a decade ago, but good luck to HB Studios with that. I lost interest once Links went down the pan and EA took the decision that no one played sports games on the PC so I cannot really comment on PC golf over the past decade, but a random search of Steam one afternoon turned up The Golf Club and I've been quite taken with it so far, flaws and all. ![]() I moved from the ST to a PC almost solely in order to be able to play Links whenever I wanted to (I had already bought a copy to play at lunchtimes on a work PC) and watched that franchise develop whilst also tinkering with PGA Tour (EA, later to become Tiger Woods), the PGA Golf franchise from Sierra and The Golf Pro games (Empire) none of which caught my imagination like Links continued to do. I also have fond recollections of an odd golf title on the ST from Microprose, which implemented one or two features which still don't get handled well by far more recent representations, such as a restricted backswing based on the position of objects around you (in 3D, which was impressive for the early 90s). My computer golf days date back to a late 1970s textual representation running on a PDP of some sort, then moving to an Atari ST on which I played a lot of both (World Class) Leaderboard (Access) and Mean 18 (Accolade), which went on to become the dominant franchises of the 1990s (as Links and Jack Nicklaus respectively). The Longest Par 4 and Par 3 holes are believed to belong to Hole 3 of Greek Isles and Hole 7 of Paradise Cove with Black tee distances of 587 yards and 280 yards respectively.Links LS with powerstroke remains my favourite PC representation of the game of golf - tough to make a decent score but a great sense of satisfaction when you did.The Longest Par 5 holes is the 18th hole of Copper Head Canyon with a total length of 821 yards yards from the Black Tees, longer than the USGA's maximum length for a par 5.Rory Mcillroy PGA Tour also included some fantasy styled courses including a cross Genre Par-3 course based on a map from Battlefield 4 and Coyote Falls, possibly a re imagined version of the Copperhead Canyon course. The final unique Fantasy Course included in the Tiger Woods series was Safari CC, future titles reused older courses, but there were no new Fantasy Courses after 07. Last years installment in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series reflected golfs new attitude by including colorful fictional golfers, a hip soundtrack, and a slick new visual style. Many other re-creations of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour course have been made by various course designers for PGA Tour 2k and other designers continue to use the Fantasy Courses of the Tiger Woods series as inspiration to create their own courses. In a YouTube comment with the course designer of Devil's Passage, the designer said quote "The predator definitely gave me the inspiration, being my all time favorite course." ![]() The Fantasy Courses of Tiger Woods PGA Tour series continue to inspire content creators, particularly the course designers of the more recent golf series, PGA Tour 2k. There are a total of 11 known Fantasy courses throughout the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series, they are: Challenging Fairway and Green contours.Extreme yardages on individual holes, including par 4 holes with par 5 yardages and par 5's regularly over six, seven and on one occasion, eight hundred yards.Huge overall yardage, exceeding 8,000 yards in some cases.Extreme changes in elevation, sometimes over 100ft or more. ![]() Fantasy Courses therefore can be generally regarded as being designed around a theme, setting or place in the world, for which provides the inspiration for the design of the course.įurther to qoute GameSpot "these fictional courses are full of outlandish geography, near-impossible obstacles, and fantastical settings". In an interview by GameSpot, The associate designer of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 DJ Powers in relation to starting points of designing a fantasy course said quote " In the past we have selected an area or a country and incorporated all of the unique things that area had to offer".
